English summary

Hospitality is the keyword, both in the beautiful Spanish province of Andalusia and at the cosy bed & breakfast accommodation La Colmena Famosa ('The Famous Beehive'). And although this website is in Dutch, rest assured that you'll feel at home from the minute you arrive, wherever in the world you're living. Fortunately, pictures and numbers are international, so from the photos you'll see that we offer high-quality accommodation at a reasonable price. All rooms are en suite, with their own terrace, and the swimming pool and surrounds offer the perfect setting for chilling out and enjoying the sun, the views and a cool drink.

ColmenaWe're situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, on the edge of the Montes de Málaga National Park. In addition to our picturesque setting overlooking the valley of Riogordo, our location means that you're on the doorstep for a host of different experiences (assuming you can drag yourself away from the swimming pool!). It's ideal walking country, for example, but also offers fascinating car trips. People and Mother Nature have found each other here, so amidst the mountains you find the white villages the region's famous for, but within 45 minutes drive along a good road you're also on the coast, with a dozen of beaches to choose from. (Málaga Airport is also just 35 minutes away.) There are also larger places to explore – Málaga itself, for instance, whose most renowned son was Pablo Picasso, Granada, with its Alhambra and Generalife, and the smaller towns such as Nerja, with its famous caves and dreamy costal views, and Ronda, split by an impressive gorge, to name just a few. Because we're about 10 minutes away from the motorway, everything's easy to reach. And we've not even begun on a description of other things to do.

Just to return to our B & B for a minute. What we can't express in pictures is the friendliness and hospitality, but we started with those. They are, however, really what make La Colmena Famosa tick. We believe that without them you could have paradise but not really enjoy it. We hope to have created a paradise that you really will enjoy! And although we've gone on about things to see and do, after a leisurely – and extensive – breakfast, no-one is going to shoo you off the premises: they really are there to be enjoyed 24/7. About three times a week we also offer dinner, where you just join in and take pot luck (but cooking is another passion of ours). By the way, 'we' are two Dutch guys who uprooted and settled here what seems like a lifetime ago.

On the 'Verblijf' page you see the prices. Note that they are per room, not per person. The normal rooms cost € 69 per night (for one person this is € 47.50) and the room in the casita, a separate little house on the other side of the pool, € 79. The casita has an second room, meaning that four people who know each other can stay there. The price for both rooms together is € 119. There's a € 10 supplement per room and per night for stays of just one or two nights. There's a link further down that page for you to make a reservation: the details are easy to follow. And of course don't hesitate to ask about anything that's not clear: that's what the Opmerking/vraag box is for and we do read (and speak) English. There are a couple of courses mentioned, but they are more Dutch-oriented: the only concession to our homeland.

ColmenaWe really hope that what you've read here and can see from the rest of the site (and elsewhere on the web) will convince you that Andalusia is the top province for a visit to Spain and that La Colmena Famosa is by far the best choice for your stay here. We look forward to welcoming you!
